SoCalGas, SunLine Transit Agency, and STARS Unveil First-of-its-Kind Advanced Hydrogen Generation System

Jan 18, 2023

The demonstration research project will produce hydrogen from renewable natural gas for fuel cell buses to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions  Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas), SunLine Transit Agency, and STARS Technology Corporation unveiled an innovative hydrogen generation system on January 18, 2023. The project will produce hydrogen from renewable natural gas (RNG) to help fuel SunLine’s hydrogen fuel cell electric buses.

At scale, this demonstration project has the potential to provide clean hydrogen at any location adjacent to a natural gas pipeline, which will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate California's climate and clean air goals.

As a pioneer in clear air initiatives over the past three decades, SunLine Transit Agency’s longtime commitment to clean energy solutions including state-of-the-art advancements in hydrogen technology make the Agency an ideal partner for the implementation of this system.

Speakers included Raul Ruiz, M.D., U.S. Representative, California’s 25th Congressional District; Neil Navin, VP of Clean Energy innovations, SoCalGas; Andy Carrasco, VP of Communications, Local Government, and Community affairs, SoCalGas;  Lauren Skiver, CEO and General Manager, SunLine Transit Agency; Bob Wegeng, Founder/President and Chief Technology Officer, STARS.
